International Transcultura Conference "Law and Peace"1. and 2. October 2004, MerzigDescription Founding on the idea that each culture builds systems of representations around the words of its language, the international network Transcultura meets in regular intervals to discuss key words from an interdisciplinary and intercultural perspective. The discussion takes place in the spirit of reciprocal knowledge: Each representative of a culture reports on his/her own culture rather than scholars looking from outside onto a culture. In February 2003 a previous Transcultura event conferred about the two key words "Empire" and "Peace". One of the hypotheses emerging from the discussion was that law plays a central role in establishing both empire and peace. The international Transcultura conference "Law and Peace" takes up this question and looks at these two transcultural key words from the perspective of different legal systems. |
