Merzig, capital town of the green District of Merzig-Wadern, is situated in the northern Saarland. In its immediate surroundings, within a radius of 50 km, are cities like Trier, Saarbrücken, Luxembourg and Metz.
Merzig and its surroundings are the ideal place for getting out and about and discovering the unspoilt beauty of the countryside - and even a few unexpected surprises! For example, almost one third of the municipal area is made up of wooded areas like the "Kammerforst" with the famed "Merzig wolves". Furthermore, Merzig is proud of its architectural heritage, which spans as many as 8 centuries. You can admire there, for example, the most important Romanesque edifice in the Saarland, the St. Peter`s Church.
The Viezfest
In the town of Merzig cider is honoured at the "Viez" festival. "Viez" is the local apple wine and the "Viez" festival is a very famous event, which typifies and mirrors the way of life in Saarland.

The way from the airport and the railway station
